Гонщик команды Формулы-1 Lotus Хейкки Ковалайнен предложил отменить синие флаги во время гонок. Об этом босс команды Lotus Тони Фернандес заявил каналу Bloomberg. По мнению Хейкки, это позволит сделать гонки более зрелищными.
Синие флаги, показываемые пилоту по ходу гонки, в автоспорте обозначают требование пропустить более быструю машину на трассе. Как правило, их показывают гонщику, отстающему от другого на круг. Пилот Формулы-1 обязан пропустить более быстрого гонщика до того, как ему будет показан четвертый синий флаг.
По мнению Ковалайнена, отмена синих флагов позволит конкурентам догнать лидера, за то время, которое он потратит для обгона круговых. Таким образом, борьба на трассе будет напряженнее, а сами гонки — интереснее. Эту точку зрения поддерживает и хозяин команды Lotus.
«В любом виде спорта бывает скучно, — сказал Фернандес. — Но Формула-1 нуждается в более напряженной борьбе, в большем количестве обгонов. Кроме того, я думаю, ей нужны яркие личности».
Обсуждение мер по повышению зрелищности чемпионата возникло после завершения первого этапа сезона, Гран-при Бахрейна. Практически все эксперты сошлись во мнении, что гонка была скучной, и не соответствовала предсезонным ожиданиям.
Ряд руководителей команд Формулы-1 уже предложили в качестве решения проблемы снизить надежность резины, и ввести два обязательных пит-стопа по ходу гонки. Подробнее эта ситуация будет разбираться на заседании FOTA в четверг, 18 марта.
