Команда Williams надеется на сотрудничество с компанией Volkswagen в Формуле-1. Об этом сообщает Motorsport.com со ссылкой на немецкий еженедельник Sport Bild. Спортивный таблоид предполагает, что владелец команды Френк Уильямс может продать немецкому автогиганту крупный пакет акций Williams.
«При поддержке автоконцерна мы гораздо сильнее, чем в качестве частной команды, в этом нет сомнений, — сказал Уильямс. — И, конечно, у нас есть тесные контакты с Германией. Я хорошо помню, хотя это было довольно давно, как мы приезжали на гонки в автобусах Volkswagen. Иногда мы даже спали в них».
Команда Френка Уильямса, доминировавшая в Формуле-1 в первой половине 1990-х годов, долгое время сохраняла независимый статус. Однако в ноябре прошлого года 20 процентов акций знаменитой конюшни были проданы австрийской инвестиционной компании во главе с Тото Вольффом.
