В конце 2009 года, компания GM была вынуждена продать BAIC (Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings Co. Ltd.), часть прав, на использование данных о более старых моделях Saab в собственный интересах. Модели 9-3 и 9-5 были также проданы китайской стороне, которая взялась использовать имеющуюся технологию.
Благодаря этому соглашению, на автосалоне в Пекине, компания Beijing Auto Works (BAW) представит, по крайней мере, хотя одну собственную модель, разработанную на основе Saab.
И, похоже, что первый вариант такого автомобиля уже имеется, название которого С71, и по сути являющимся клоном Saab 9-5. Теперь осталось дождаться лишь реального опытного образца в металле.
На том же автосалоне в Пекине BAW представит еще три модели — два внедорожника, один из которых (В40) напоминает симбиоз Jeep Wrangler и Land Rover Discovery, а второй (В90) — Land Rover Freelander с «мордой» от Range Rover Sport или Jeep Grand Cherokee нового поколения; третья модель — электрокар C30 EV, в котором угадывается сходство с концептом Mercedes-Benz BlueZero E-Cell.
