Концерн General Motors выплатил правительству США долг в 4,7 миллиарда долларов за счет государственных средств Америки, сообщает Automotive News со ссылкой на сенатора от республиканской партии Чарльза Грэссли.
В ходе изучения аудиторской отчетности General Motors сенатор обратил внимание на то, что на выплату долга перед США концерн направил, в том числе, средства, которые ранее получил от государства в рамках специальной программы по спасению проблемных активов (TARP). Именно они составили основную часть выплаты долга, а вовсе не доходы с продаж.
Программа TARP начала действовать в США с 2008 года. В ее рамках правительство покупает акции крупных компаний и предоставляет гарантии по их активам. Так, в результате помощи, оказанной концерну в 2009 году, Министерство финансов США стало владельцем 61 процента акций General Motors.
В 2009 году США и Канада выделили концерну 8,4 миллиарда долларов для завершения процедуры банкротства. В ноябре того же года руководство компании пообещало погасить долги до середины 2011 года, однако чуть позже в General Motors решили рассчитаться с государствами досрочно. В конце апреля этого года концерн GM заявил о полном погашении своего долга перед США. Сумма последней выплаты правительству США составила 4,7 миллиарда долларов.
