В США из салона арендованного автомобиля украли бриллианты стоимостью 1,5 млн долл.. Пострадавший – Питер Каплан, ювелир из Северной Каролины, прибывший в расположенный в штате Нью-Мексико г. Альбукерк буквально за полчаса до этого. Выйдя из аэропорта, он арендовал машину и направился на ней в ювелирный магазин. По дороге П. Каплан остановился чтобы посетить туалет. Он вышел из машины, оставив сумку с драгоценным содержимым в салоне, а когда через три минуты вернулся, то сумки уже не было.
По информации, предоставленной самим пострадавшим, в сумке находились 150 бриллиантов и 70 колец из драгоценного металла на общую сумму 1,5 млн долл. Полиция считает, что за ювелиром следили.
