Проблема заключается в неверной компоновке болида, из-за которой на переднюю ось приходится слишком большой вес. Это вызывает недостаточную поворачиваемость машины, и приводит к высокому износу покрышек.
Для того, чтобы решить эту проблему, можно снизить общий вес болида, чтобы сместить центр тяжести назад за счет балласта. Однако сделать это не так просто. «Шасси омологировано FIA, и мы не можем его менять», — пояснил Браун. Использование многих легких материалов запрещено правилами.
Другим путем может стать увеличение колесной базы болида. Теоретически команда имеет такую возможность, так как среди машин сезона 2010 года более короткую базу, чем Mercedes W01, имеет только болид Renault. Однако удлинение базы приведет к изменению монокока, что потребует проведения новых краш-тестов FIA.
